Congrats to Metric Civil Contractors Ltd. on taking delivery of the first ZX345USLC-6 to touch North American soil! We caught up with HERD members Marlon and Chris to see what they think about the 345 and why they continue to choose Hitachi.

Why did you choose the 345?

Chris: “When we saw the 345 at CONEXPO, we could definitely see the benefits of having a machine that size with the reduced-tail-swing radius. It’s especially useful for road work or underground utility projects – the counterweight is essentially gone but you still have the power and the reach to be able to perform work that other reduced-tail-swing machines aren’t able to do currently.”

Marlon: “I keep referring to it as the big brother of the ZX245USLC-5. It’s got the undercarriage of the ZX350, so it’s very stable, and has power that’s similar to a ZX300-sized machine.”

You’ve had the 345 since June. How’s it working out for you?

Marlon: “We’re kind of putting the machine through its paces to see its capabilities and how it measures up to the other equipment, being the first one. So far, the operators love it. One of my guys who’s been operating machines for 17 years just sent me a message that said the machine was the nicest machine he’s ever run.”

Why are you guys Hitachi fans?

Chris: “I’m passionate about what we do and how we do it, and having the right equipment for the right job definitely allows us to complete the projects we’re working on and that’s what I’m passionate about – doing good work.”

Marlon: “Since I was an operator in the past, I spent a lot of time running all kinds of different equipment and Hitachi was always one piece of equipment that I enjoyed operating. It’s great equipment. It doesn’t fail us.”
