Buntzen PUMA Access Rd
Overview
Completed road rehabilitation works within the Buntzen Lake Recreation Area under BC Hydro’s Forest Road Program, addressing multiple sections of access roadway to improve long-term performance and reliability. Scope included full and partial road reconstruction with excavation to suitable subgrade, placement and compaction of engineered granular materials, and asphalt restoration to match existing profiles. Drainage upgrades were completed through installation of culverts, storm piping, and catch basins, along with ditch grading to improve runoff management and reduce roadway deterioration. Work was delivered in coordination with BC Hydro requirements, maintaining access and traffic flow throughout construction.
Challenge
Variable and unsuitable subgrade conditions across multiple roadway sections, combined with weather impacts and the requirement to maintain full public access, created a constantly changing environment where preplanning was limited and excavation depths and repair extents could only be confirmed in the field.
Our Approach
Maintained a highly adaptive field-driven approach, continuously recalibrating excavation limits, remediation methods, and sequencing in real time as conditions were exposed. Crews were empowered to make informed decisions on the fly, allowing work fronts to shift efficiently while maintaining traffic flow and responding to changing weather and ground conditions.
Result
Delivered consistent, long-term roadway performance while maintaining uninterrupted public access and minimizing schedule impacts despite changing ground conditions and weather constraints.
