Buntzen PUMA Access Rd

Overview
METRIC. completed road rehabilitation works within the Buntzen Lake Recreation Area as part of BC Hydro’s Forest Road Program, improving the long-term performance and reliability of multiple access road sections.
The scope included full and partial road reconstruction, excavation to suitable subgrade, placement and compaction of engineered granular materials, asphalt restoration, culvert installation, storm piping, catch basins, and ditch grading to improve drainage and reduce roadway deterioration.
Work was completed in coordination with BC Hydro requirements while maintaining access and traffic flow throughout construction.
Challenge
Variable subgrade conditions, weather impacts, and the need to maintain public access created a changing work environment where excavation depths and repair extents had to be confirmed in the field.
Our Approach
METRIC. used an adaptive, field-driven approach, adjusting excavation limits, remediation methods, and sequencing as conditions were exposed. Crews were equipped to make informed decisions in real time, allowing work to shift efficiently while maintaining traffic flow.
Result
The project was completed with improved long-term roadway performance, uninterrupted public access, and minimal schedule impacts despite changing ground and weather conditions.
